Welcome to part 2 of me restyling my Summer Shift Dress!
I set myself a wee, fun challenge of seeing if I could restyle the below dress in order to wear it more than just in the Summer time. If you missed part 1 posted yesterday, you can find out how I styled it as a Pinafore dress here.
I took this simple in shape, but rather striking in pattern, Aztec print Summer Shift dress …
… and styled it in a way that I could wear it for the Autumn, Pinafore style.
For this restyle I still used the same template of
- a long sleeve tee and my funky black suede knee high boots
- and a gilet
but as you’ll see, I’ve done some minor tweaks, creating a whole new look.
Second Restyle: Daytime Skirt
I’ve changed how I’ve worn the tee, to give the illusion I’m wearing a skirt rather than a dress. Plus, we’ve a different style and colour of gilet and I’ve altered the accessories.
In reality the top is quite long, too long really to wear with the dress, especially with the length of the dress falling above the knee. I would look bizarrely out of proportion! I tucked the top under and to secure it in place, added the silver belt I wore way back in the Summer with my Embroidery Anglaise dress.
Having already got alot of wear from my black faux suede gilet, I’d been looking for another in a lighter colour and slightly different style. I’m not too keen on the shaggier styles of gilets;they can begin to look a little matted after a few wears. I liked the faux fur look of this petite gilet and when it was reduced a couple of weeks ago, I lost no time in making one mine.
As the texture of the gilet is so soft – it’s like stroking a kitten, so very touchy, feely – I chose accessories that matched. I swapped yesterday’s fringe bag for the metallic blush bag I wore in my Mandarin Jacket post.
Two small black accents were enough; I kept the same cuff as yesterday but chose a waterfall necklace instead of the choker.
Let’s have a close up of the boots, shall we? They’ve a touch of the 70’s about them with their chunky heel and how they slightly curve on the inside part of the heel. I almost feel like bursting into song with an ABBA tune.
Dancing Queen anyone?

So there we have it. From one simple Summer Shift Dress, I’ve created not one but 2 new outfits, quite different in style, I think you’ll agree.
And all from using the same top and pair of boots but with just a different gilet! Mission accomplished!
Do you have an under utilised dress sitting in your wardrobe you could restyle? And do you have a favourite out of my two new outfits?
