Seasonal Skinny Wk 33: Embracing Embroidery Anglaise | Navy & Red

Are there certain fabrics or patterns that are perennial favourites?

Ones that you slip on and feel totally at home in?

Embroidery Anglaise is one of those for me.

My embroidery anglaise collection is ever growing and covers not just tops but a couple of skirts, a shirt, as seen on last Tuesday and even a dress.  I find it so easy and comfortable to wear.  Every summer I see it in stores on one variation or another; it just has a timelessness about it.

I love the simplicity of this top with its round neck and small cap style sleeves.  It’s the kind of style you can dress up or down which makes it hugely versatile and therefore right up my street.  We all need those kinds of tops in our wardrobes.  The workhorses that just seem to cover all bases from casual to smart.

Plus being navy, the colour’s a refreshing change from white, of which I have a few!

And this one was perfect with my red jeans for a day of pootling about running errands.  And I can certainly say that pootling about is decidedly more fun and easy to do when you’re wearing more than just a basic tee with your jeans.

One should always pootle with style!

Of course you can just throw on some joggings pants, a tee that maybe has seen better days and then head out the door.  After all, errand running isn’t a fashion parade!

But I spent too many years in my 20’s and 30’s, when I had to look after every penny, saving my so called ‘better clothes’ (not my best best clothes though!) only for times when I needed to look smart, such as for work or time spent with friends, rather than just wearing and enjoying whatever I wanted to wear that day.  And with my days now spent encased in leggings and lycra for Pilates teaching, I want to up the ante a little at the weekend when most people would probably be wanting to reach for the jogging bottoms!

Do you save or have you saved your ‘better clothes’ for special occasions or do you wear them for pootling?

And if anyone is scratching their head wondering what the heck Petite Vix means with all this talk of pootling – has she finally gone off her rocker??? – I shall explain.  To pootle is a terribly British way of saying you are moving or travelling at a leisurely pace.

And as I did wear this outfit for a day of pootling about running errands and because the broderie anglaise design more than holds its own, I kept the jewellery simple – a matching multi-coloured matching necklace and bracelet.

Pootling Footnote

A simple outfit of top, jeans and sandals doesn’t mean sacrificing or ditching style or comforot.  Even with only two colours, the pattern of the strappy sandals and the anglaise design means I’m getting a fair bit of style without it being over dressy.

Right, must heave ho my darlings, I’ve more pootling and pottering to do before tomorrow’s final blogging instalment of the week.

And do pop by tomorrow.  After the calmness and serenity of today’s outfit, tomorrow’s has everything bar the kitchen sink thrown at it!

Do you collect certain fabrics or prints more than others?  If so, do tell which ones are your favourites.

I love this top paired with the red pants. Great look! Thanks for teaching me a new word today. I am going to have to add "pootling" to my vocabulary now! It's such a fun word!

I've never been a huge eyelet fan because it seemed too girly!! But since I've been open to more styles, I like it more and more!
    The shoes are fabulous also!!

That's interesting Jodie because of all the broderie anglaise patterns you can have, I find the eyelet the least girly! But I'm glad eyelet is growing on you as when it's paired with some standout shoes, it can look amazing. Funny isn't it how we get to like styles over time that maybe we were lukewarm about in the beginning.

You're so on point with this colours scheme, I saw similar in Debenhams and thought how great they look together – classic colours in the forefront again. Jacqui

Thank you Jacqui. I've always liked red and navy together – it's a softer combination than red and black which can look too stark against some skin tones – and it's still a striking combination.

You look quite smashing in your "pootling" outfit, Jacqueline! (I'm going to start using that phrase, if you don't mind.) The top is definitely a notch or two above the weekend tee! I really like the idea of pootling in something chic and comfy at the same time. And those SHOES! You've been pairing up some great footwear this week, young lady! I may have to fly over to England and go shoe shopping with you pronto. Would that be considered shoe-tling pootling? 🙂

At this rate you'll be fluent in British 'English'! 😉
Thank you, I've realised that I have quite an eye for footwear. You know how some people are bag people or shoe people – I'm definitely the latter – can't resist a well designed shoe!
Definitely shoe-tling pootling – let's get a date in the diary!

Beautiful top and I really like it paired with your red jeans! Another pair of fabulous shoes – they are definitely statement sandals.

Thanks Jennie. They definitely lift the outfit and give a delicate touch to the top too.
